Volume 20 - November 2008
Marble or travertine floors are an expensive item and you should want to
preserve your investment for as long as possible. They should be maintained
with a damp mop and a neutral floor cleaner or a plain mild liquid dish detergent
such as palmolive. Your floors should be professionally cleaned and re -
polished at least once a year or more depending on traffic conditions and ware.

Licensing opportunity, we are proving this is a recession resistant business.
Volume23 - April 2009
I find it amazing that one of the first services a corporation or business will
suspend during hard times is cleaning. A clean and decease free work place
should be a major priority for employees and customers. It will also cost more in
the long run to restore your floors back to normal after restoring services.

Volume 24 - May 2009
Beware of the bait and switch tactics of carpet cleaning or floor care companies.
They will advertise a very low price for cleaning just to get you to call and get
them in your property. Once there they will tell you all the things you need that
are not covered by the advertised price. If you insist on getting the price
advertised, they will clean your carpet with water only and call it basic cleaning.

Volume 25 - June - July 2009
Your tile, terracotta, marble ,travertine or terrazzo floor may look clean, but a
good indicator than it is time for a cleaning would be if you are walking around
the house in white socks and the bottoms of your feet get pretty dirty, it is time
for a cleaning to be done.
Volume 26 - July/Aug/Sept 2009

Volume 27 - Oct/Nov/Dec 2009
Porcelain tile has been coming from Spain, Italy and China for the past few
years and has been coated with some sort of waxy, paraffin like substance,
covering the surface of the tile. The manufacturers claim it is to protect the tile
in transit and that it can be just buffed of the tile. Contractors in the US have
no idea what to make of this substance when they see it and have no idea
how to get it off. First of all, it does not just buff off. The manufacturers are
totally wrong. The first time I ran into this substance, I was stumped too. I did
not give up and managed to remove it after 3 days of trial and error. I have
run into this problem on a few more occasions and because I will not let a floor
beat me, I did not quit and have managed to remove at least 90% or better of
this nuisance substance they are placing on the tile. I may be one of the only
ones who was persistent enough with this problem and the only one who you
can turn to in resolving this problem.

A beginning of a special new year. Let's start the new year off by adding to
the economy. Stopping or slowing down spending will only hamper a recovery.
We need to continue to buy what we need. I will definitely not say no to
spending on floor care services....lol
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Volume 29 - Feb - Mar - April 2010
It may seem like a good idea at the time to put a liquid type sealer/finish on
your travertine, marble or limestone floor in order to give it a shine. This is
one of the worst things you can do to a stone floor and when you realize how
bad it becomes and looks in the future, removing the product from the floor in
order to polish it properly will be a very labor intensive and costly process. Do
it right the first time and avoid an expensive mistake.

Volume 30 - May - June 2010
There has been much controversy about crystallization over many years.
The fact is, if a company is using crystallization to refinish a floor, it is not
proper. Crystallization is a final step after refinishing or for routine
maintenance. It seals, hardens, brings out the shine and protects the stone
surface.

Volume 31 - July - 2010
Trying to do your floor on your own is understandable to save money.
Even hiring a contractor to strip a stone floor that has a cheaper price, but
uses acid to do the work. It is part of my business unfortunately to try to fix
these kinds of mistakes. It will usually cost you more money in the long run.
If you do not know what you are doing, do not attempt it. Common sense
would tell you acid is not good or safe to use on stone floors, so stay away
from the cheaper contractor who will damage your floor. Sometimes it just
cannot be fixed and you will have to live with the result. Take care of your
floor from the start the right way and they will continue to look beautiful for
the life of your home or business.
